Montessori Peace Curriculum

“The prize and punishments are incentives toward unnatural or forced effort, and, therefore we certainly cannot speak of the natural development of the child in connection with them.”
Dr. Maria Montessori

The GW Elementary School has a positive approach using redirection, communication, and conflict resolution. The peace rose ceremony is demonstrated and facilitated for the children at the beginning of the school year to empower them to develop skills to resolve their own differences. Children are entitled to a pleasant and harmonious environment at the GW Elementary Public Montessori School.

Chronically disruptive behavior is defined as verbal or physical activity which may include but is not limited to behavior that:

  • requires constant attention from the staff;
  • inflicts physical or emotional harm on other children;
  • ignores or disobeys the rules which guide behavior during the school day.
