Core Values

“The child, in fact, once he feels sure of himself, will no longer seek the approval of authority after every step.”
Dr. Maria Montessori

The George Washington Community (students, families, guides, staff, administrators, and community members) through a systemic approach believes that:

*  Teachers should be extensively trained and certified as Montessori Guides.

*  Teaching Assistants should be extensively trained and certified as Montessori Co-Guides.

* All support staff should be educated and knowledgeable of the Montessori Philosophy and Method.

* Classrooms and other school spaces are respectful learning communities prepared with curriculum and materials to meet the needs of diverse multi-age learners.

* Children are intrinsically motivated, and they will succeed when their learning activities incorporate freedom of movement, social mediation, and opportunities for independence.

* Children will become self-disciplined when they are empowered to choose learning activities designed for specific developmental and learning needs.

* Weekly Cohort Meetings promote Professional Learning Community, which consistently and continually support the Mission, Vision, and Goals for the School.

« Families and Community Members will be offered educational opportunities to understand and support the purposes of the school; they are partners.
