Girls Inc. is a National program that inspires all girls to be strong, smart, and bold through life-changing programs and experiences that help girls navigate gender, economic, and social barriers. Research-based curricula, delivered by trained, mentoring professionals in a positive all-girl environment equip girls to achieve academically; lead healthy and physically active lives; manage money; navigate media messages; and discover an interest in science, technology, engineering, and math. In January 2012 the Community Leadership and Action program began at George Washington School. Out of the group’s concern for  healthier food in the cafeteria, the Girls for Real Food project was born. The group’s focus is on bringing awareness to better food choices through tasting events with professional chefs, field trips toKingston’s South Pine Street Farm, working in the school garden, and learning how to make simple healthy foods as well as using their voice, and writing letters to the school district’s administrators stating their mission and desire for change.
